Connecticut Man Calls 911 After Three-Hour Standoff With Angry House Cat

Without question, 911 operators get some strange calls from time to time. But the one received by a Connecticut 911 call center may be one of the strangest in a long time.

Mohammed Lokman of Stamford, Connecticut, dialed 911, and reported the following:

“My cat was getting too aggressive. I was inside and he attacked me and he started scratching my leg and biting me. So me and my wife went outside and now we cannot go in for like three, four hours.”

Had I been the operator, I probably would have made some snide remark about not appreciating a prank call and that such things were against the law. In which case I would have probably lost my job, because Mr. Lokman was as serious as he could be.

Instead, the Stamford 911 operator asks:

“You said this was a cat??

Lokman replies:

“Yes. We cannot move. We cannot do anything. It’s so aggressive and so mad.”

And now, as Paul Harvey used to say, the rest of the story: The Lokman’s cat, which Mr. Lokman refers to as a “he,” was actually a female who had just given birth to a litter of kittens while the Lokmans were away. When they attempted to return and enter the house, the cat took umbrage and would not let them inside.

Yes, officers were dispatched to help calm the situation, and eventually the Lokmans were able to get inside. The Lokmans report that all is well between them, the cat, and the kittens.
