Scott Walker To Change Abortion Laws In Wisconsin To Exclude Incest And Rape Victims

When the House of Republicans passed the anti-abortion bill in the parliament with?a special?exception?for rape and incest victims, one must have well understood their intent.

According to?recent news, Wisconsin’s Republican governor Scott Walker said he?will sign a bill which would make it illegal to abort a fetus after 20 weeks of pregnancy?but without including the exception for rape and incest victims. The worst part is that there isn’t much to stop him from the decision from changing abortion laws in Wisconsin. With most of Wisconsin’s conservative crowd pro-life, they might even remove the exception where the pregnancy is a threat to the mother’s life.

Matt Sande, Wisconsin’s Legislative Director said:

?'[I]t is utter hypocrisy for proponents of the bill to decry the horror of dismembering a child through a dilation and evacuation abortion and then carve out an exception for babies whose mother’s lives may be endangered, as if those babies somehow don’t feel pain. We urge legislators to refrain from co?sponsoring this bill until the medical emergency exception is fully removed.??

Interestingly, this report comes a year after Walker signed a legislation on abortion that

?leaves the final decision to a woman and her doctor.?

There should be little doubt that this decision is to target the conservative voter bank in the upcoming 2016 presidential elections. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said that he supports the bill but with the necessary exceptions. However, the bill seems to be moving forward without them. As per his statement:

?When I ran for office, I have always taken to allow for exceptions for rape, incest or when the life of the mother is in danger. This bill has one of those exceptions: it sounds like it has one for when the mother’s life is in danger … so we’ll have to have a caucus discussion to decide whether or not we want to have possible amendments or if we even want to move the bill at all. We just haven’t talked about it.?

This news comes a couple of months after Walker signed the ?anti-union Right to Work legislation‘ which made Wisconsin the 25th state to weaken unions and disarm labour.

Karan is a humanist and a serious Bernie Sanders supporter who is really really scared that if (god forbid) the Republican wins, it's impact on his part of the world would be a disaster. The 2016 polls might be a debate of bread and butter for Americans. For him, it's a question of life and death.
