On Thursday, Hastert was indicted for lying?to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)?and structuring cash withdrawals to avoid bank reporting requirements.

According to a federal indictment issued by the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. The withdrawn ‘mystery money’ was to used to pay unnamed person

“[to] compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct? against that person.

The indictment also says that Hastert, who was at one time a high school teacher and wrestling?coach

“paid $1.7 million to this person during a time period of 2010-2014.”

According to Monica Davey at the New York Times,

“Since 2012, the indictment alleges, Mr. Hastert had begun structuring withdrawals of less than $10,000 from various accounts to avoid bank reporting requirements as he made the payments. And in late 2014, Mr. Hastert told federal agents that he was not paying anyone with the money, but was keeping the withdrawals for himself.”

A fact that we know is only partially true, or a typical Republican answer.

Hastert, who is now 73, was a longtime Republican serving as Speaker of the House from 1999-2007. But now his legacy is tarnished.

It’s hard to believe that the people ever elected Dennis Hastert. Oh wait. No, it’s not, because Republicans were the ones who voted him in.

How typical……
