To Summon Demons Is Trendy? The Viral Charlie Charlie Internet Challenge Exposed

Everyday I become more convinced that the Internet will ultimately become the fall of man.

One of the hot “trends” on the Internet challenge circuit is the “Charlie Charlie challenge.”

It involves trying to summon a Mexican demon named Charlie. Now, there are a few challenges that are worthwhile and bring together humanity in beautiful ways. The Ice Bucket Challenge was one of them, and helped bring money and attention to ALS. But for every good viral challenge on the Internet, there must be dozens of “Charlie Charlie” challenges out there, challenging our ability to sustain living brain cells.

Many of these challenges are stupid and dangerous, like the “Cinnamon Challenge,” but fortunately the “Charlie Charlie Challenge” is just plain stupid.

From the YouTube description,

You – or your wayward demonic teens – might have summoned up a malignant Mexican spirit with a couple of pencils. But, thankfully, all is probably well ? here’s what’s really going on in the Charlie Charlie Challenge.

What’s the Charlie Charlie Challenge and where did it come from?

The Charlie Charlie Challenge ? or variants of it, known as the pencil game or Charlie pencil ? has been around for some time. It’s claimed that the game is an old Mexican tradition, but there’s no trace of that on the Internet, but it seems to have been around for years before it took off this week.
To play the game, grab a sheet of paper and draw two lines on it to make a cross. Put a ?yes? in the top right and bottom left hand corner, and a ?no? in the remaining two.? *

Here are some videos about it.

Just for laughs, here is a video from the Vigilant Christian predictably taking this game very seriously.

Now here is a video by the Young Turks debunking the Charlie game.
