Shocker: Miley Cyrus Is Into Nonprofit Management For Homeless LGBT Kids

While we weren’t looking, the Mickey Mouse Club turned infamous tongue performer, Miley Cyrus, launched the Happy Hippie Foundation. Wow. Nonprofit management is the last thing I would have expected from this provocative singer.

Cyrus Uses Power To Help

Cyrus? set her nonprofit up to help homeless and LGBT youth, because, well not all her relations have been ?straight, heterosexual.? She told the Associated Press,

“The position I’m in, I feel like I’ve got a lot of power. But so many kids don’t feel that way. They’re under their parents’ rule.”

?The pink pits are saying, ‘Don’t tell me what to do.’ It’s back to what I’m preaching in a way, you know, telling these kids. I’m not just saying you be yourself and I’m going to go be Miley Cyrus. I’m saying I’m going to be my (expletive) self, too.”

Homeless LGBT Young People

There?is a stunning 1.6 million homeless kids living in our country, and Cyrus indicated that

?40 percent identify themselves as LGBT.?

Funds she raises are designed to build digital support groups for LGBT youth and their families. According to her nonprofit’s Facebook site, which already has 107,000 likes, Backyard Sessions are to,

?inspire young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.?

Hints of Cyrus? interest in social issues kicked off when she had a homeless man accept her award at the 2014 Video Music Awards. The December suicide of transgender teen Leelah Acorn further inspired her. According to the Associated Press, she said that,

“When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying? And that’s what I had to ask myself a lot. It’s like, I know you’re going to look at me more if my (breasts) are out, so look at me. And then I’m going to tell you about my foundation for an hour and totally hustle you.”

Entertainment To Nonprofit Management

Twenty-two-year-old Cyrus has been in the entertainment business since she was 14. She intends to further her passion, nonprofit management helping an important, under-served population by writing and producing songs extolling being true to and loving yourself.

She is well aware of the monumental task ahead of her,

“It’s something that everyone sees. It’s like the birds chirping. We’re consciously ignoring it at all times, but it’s always happening right in front of us.”

“It’s not going to be an overnight process. You’ve got to get into a lot of people’s brains and you’ve got to really make this a topic.”

Cyrus says that Bruce Jenner is, “my hero,” because he has gone public on transgender issues. And much to my own surprise, I have to say: Thanks, Miley. I am way impressed.

The foundation is also aiding the Hollywood-based center for homeless teens, My Friend’s Place. Email signup is available for Cyrus’ Happy Hippie Foundation. And for more information, click on this link?and this.
