Numerous Super Bowl champion quarterback of the New England Patriots, Tom Brady, has been suspended for four games in the upcoming NFL season. The Patriots have also been fined $1 million as a franchise, and must forfeit two draft picks, including one first-round draft pick.

Officially, Brady was suspended for conduct “detrimental to the integrity of the NFL.” Terence Moore, a sports journalist, has said on MSNBC live that this will “kill” Tom Brady’s legacy. He brought up this scandal, spygate from the early 2000s, substitution patterns that caused the NFL to change their rules regarding putting players in and out, and more, to show that this will make Brady and the Patiorts carry around a “huge asterisk.” He also stated that this was shocking, that the almighty Brad was suspended, but thinks the head coach, Bill Belichick, should have been suspended as well.

Everyone will have an opinion on this. The recent report about deflategate said it was more probably than not that the Patiots knew about what was happening with the balls, with Brady being at the forefront. Brady answered questions saying that he wasn’t involved and didn’t know about it. Questions remain regarding exactly what Brady knew and when.

Some may claim that this sends a bad message, considering that Ray Rice was initially suspended 2 games for domestic violence, before massive outrage erupted after the release of the video concerning the altercation. He of course ended up getting a massively harsher punishment, but many believe that on the surface, the NFL takes cheating more seriously than domestici violence. However, Greg Hardy was recently suspended 10 games for domestic violence. Regardless, cheating is wrong and some punishment should have been handed down.

We may never know the extent of the knowledge that Brady and Billichick had about the deflating of their balls taking place before a huge game in the 2014 playoffs, but many have accused them of not being as cooperative as they could have been.

Do you think this punishment was fitting? According to ESPN live coverage, Brady’s agent will appeal this decision, calling it “ridiculous.”?This has a chance of holding up,?especiailly since there is no direct evidence that Brady?officially knew the balls were being deflated OR helped deflate them in any way. But others do not see how a star quarterback of Brady’s caliber could claim ignorance to an issue of ball deflation. We will just have to wait and see what ends up happening with this story.
