Reading her teenage years was like reading my autobiography.
Shy to a point of social anxiety, never talking,?baggy t-shirts and baggy pants. I was overweight. I still got some attention from guys, but well, it was for one thing. As an adult, I just don’t want to die from a heart attack at 40, and my husband seems to be happy.
I’m still uncomfortable with my body. I would never wear shorts. I wear capris. My t-shirts are still baggy (that’s honestly just a comfort preference now). I’m comfortable around my husband, but?I still find myself worrying. However, this motivated woman broke through that barrier and did something I and many other women wouldn’t do.
She posted?selfies of herself on Instagram in plus-size lingerie.
“And since I’m someone who struts around the house most days in only my underwear and a crown, I decided that I would post a photo online of myself in underwear every day for a week, just to see what happened.”
She had plenty of comments consisting of creepy, positive, and negative. What she found?and was surprised by was not the negative comments but the fact that?followers defended her on hateful comments leading to a troll war.
“What really surprised me, though, were the amount of people who follow me who would jump in to defend me anytime anyone left a hateful comment and sometimes it grew into a legit war… For every negative comment I received, there were 100 positive ones”
Sharing that she does this to empower women of?all shapes and sizes, she summed it up like this:
“I want people of all shapes and sizes to know that if I can do this and feel this happy and confident with myself, you can too. No one has to hide anymore. And that’s really the important thing to remember here. I may be comfortable post half-naked photos of myself online for the public to see, but there are still so many who just haven’t gotten there yet.”
Wow. I can’t say I’ll be taking a selfie of me in lingerie, but maybe I’ll take an actual picture of myself that’s recent… after I put on makeup and do my hair of course.?Baby steps.
