The Next Time Someone Tells You Racism Doesn’t Exist, Show Them This Video

Racism, some maintain, is all but history in America. They will even point to the fact that we have elected a black man as President of the United States and then reelected him. That, they will tell you, ends the debate.

Then why is it that we still see racism all around us? Why is that a black person is four times more likely to be arrested for a marijuana offense than a white person is? Why are blacks twice as likely to be pulled over by the police? And, perhaps most telling of all, why is it that a black person is only half as likely to get a callback from a potential employer when they send out their resume?

The video below, made by Brave New Films, takes a closer look at the stats I just listed and shows that systematic racism is indeed still a problem in this country.

So the next time a friend or relative insists racism isn’t a problem or isn’t real, ask them to take 3 minutes and watch this video. It’s a reminder we could all use from time to time.
