According to the lawsuit filed Monday by AT&T employee Knoyme King, Slator had asked her to transfer data from his work phone onto a new phone, where she saw a meme of an African child dancing with the words ?It’s Friday…? followed by a racial slur that tends to offend African Americans. The image had been sent in a text calling it an ?oldie but a goodie.?

King alleges that because of her race, she had been passed up for promotions and only received minor raises in the 30 years she’s been employed for AT&T, also that she has been mistreated and attempts had been made to get her to leave the company.

According to Skip Miller, who is King’s lawyer, the issue had been brought up to the company’s HR department as well as the board of directors, and no action was taken, he told Associated Press on Tuesday. He said even though Slator was discharged, the lawsuit will continue.

The company stated

?There is no place for demeaning behavior within AT&T, and we regret that action was not taken earlier.”
