The monkeys of Shimla, India, are known to be more than a bit obnoxious. They beg for food, grab items from those passing by, and were even slated for sterilization recently, but animal rights activists put the kibosh on that plan.
The Shimla monkeys, in other words, have a reputation, and even a local tourist guide warns:

The simians, however, are mostly just hungry, and they know humans often carry food with them.
But one thing you should not do if you ever visit India and encounter the monkeys, is provoke them. That really pisses them off. One young man recently found that out the hard way, and it has been captured on surveillance video.
As he passes by a monkey, the man gives the little fellow the finger. Big, big mistake. Because the monkey took the gesture very personally and decided to send a flying drop kick at the man. The man was apparently not hurt, and can be seen to stand up and walk away.
Ignore the Shimla monkeys, even curse at them under your breath, but if you give one the finger, expect there to be consequences.
