4 Swedish Off Duty Cops Put Our Country’s Police Force To Shame

I found this video, and I’m pissed off. I’m so mad, I’m crying. That’s how angry I am. Why are we not doing it this way? How come I wake up every single day to another headline about a black man or woman being killed by a police officer? If an officer’s life is in danger from someone of ANY race, fine. But really? “Fuck your breath”? Life in danger there? How about Walter Scott? Life in danger there? Had there been no video from one person standing in the right place at the right time, there would be no justice.

Remember Eric Garner’s “I can’t breathe”? Here’s the most startling example of how militant our country’s police force has become. Below is a video uploaded by a subway rider after a fight broke out in the train and four Swedish off duty cops on vacation and off-duty stepped in and broke it up.

Did you see it? Did you hear it? The black man being held on the ground is screaming “I can’t breathe!” Sounds awful familiar, doesn’t it? The guy is vocally abusive and not very cooperative. He’s being held down by two off-duty cops with no guns drawn. When the man starts screaming “I can’t breathe!” what does the Swedish officer holding him say? He doesn’t put him into a chokehold. In fact, he tells the guy in a voice that isn’t even loud enough to be considered yelling,

“Take it easy. Sir. Calm down. Everything will be okay. Take it easy. Just relax. Take it easy, okay?”

This is where I lost it. I literally slammed my mouse down on my desk. The cop referred to him with the word “Sir.” He referred to him with a term that you teach your child to say to be polite. THEY WERE POLITE. They didn’t shoot the guy in the back. It only took two guys to hold him calmly while waiting for officers to arrive. They were even off duty and on vacation and did this. They seemed to even calm the guy down.

This is not directed at the good cops by any means. Thank you for doing your jobs well. But for the rest of you? What the hell is wrong with you? We ask a race of people to believe that racism is dead. We ask them to trust our criminal justice system – the same one that doesn’t serve to protect them. We ask them to trust us after hundreds of years of screwing them over and actively trying to screw them over. Why should they? I wouldn’t. Who would?

We’re supposed to be the greatest country in the world, and this absolutely proves we’re not. Screw economics and screw foreign affairs. We can’t police our own people without killing them because of the color of their skin.

Someone please find these four Swedish men and ask them what they think of our country’s police force. I’d love to hear their opinions.
