Shona Banda, 37 is a single mother in Kansas living with Crohn’s disease. Banda is a very vocal and public advocate for medical marijuana in Kansas. She has produced YouTube videos on the subject.
Recently, Banda’s 11-year-old son’s school hosted a D.A.R.E event where police officers spoke to students about the dangers of drug use. Banda’s son spoke up during the presentation, defending his sick mother telling the officers and school officials present that his mom used marijuana to treat her illness. In a matter of weeks, police raided Banda’s home, arrested her for possession of marijuana, and took away her parental custody.
Medical marijuana is currently illegal in Kansas, so Banda would travel to nearby Colorado for her medicine. It is truly a shame when someone has to commit a felony just to live.
