Black people in America as well as other minorities are tired of explaining things to white people. It’s not because people of color, or P.O.C, are trying to be mean or resentful. It’s because many white people are willfully ignorant.
It doesn’t matter what bit of knowledge you share with certain people, they will always have a ready made answer to spank you down like the child that they see you as, while at the same time,?protect their world view.? The statements represented in the game are tactics known as “derailing.” Derailing serves to divert the conversation back to a more comfortable setting for the derailer, and perhaps most importantly, help reestablish or “conserve” the traditional power dynamic.
Here’s a great quote from a very enlightening Salon.
“It’s both exhausting and total bullshit to be reprimanded for your tone, should you be perceived as impolite or angry, or told precisely how you, as a person of color, should mind your manners when you talk to white people about race. The implication is that issues around racism should only be recognized when presented in a way that neither upsets nor offends your white audience. (It’s called?tone policing,?and credit where it’s due, it is yet another brilliant diversionary tactic.)
It’s futile to have discussions with white people who pretend to want to talk race, but actually delight in verbally sparring or debating the veracity of POC experiences. The Internet is absolutely lousy with examples, and no one will ever accuse comment threads of being the place to look for incisive racial commentary. It happens in real life situations as well, of course. Most black and other POC are uninterested in having yet another conversation with white people who articulate ideas about race that are simplistic or essentialist, ill-informed or purposely provocative or inflammatory.”
Yes we still get the wagging finger, the “naughty naughty” and “watch your tone when talking to a white man” type of replies. Many white?people?still long for the days when blacks where happy and singing in cotton fields. Serving white people lemonade and calling them Ma’am and Sir, and white people in turn would call black?people “girl or boy” regardless of the age dynamic.
While many conservatives would take offense and say I’m “generalizing,” they usually turn around and “generalize” black people in the same breath by quoting statistics which favor their argument. If you dare counter their statistics with your own…well just pick derail statement from the board above. Pretty neat trick eh?
In my opinion nobody in America has mastered the art of derailment better than Sean “Let Me Educate You” Hannity, the man is an absolute master. Here’s a video of one of his finest derailments.
