Could This Charlie Chaplin Speech Be The Liberal American Anthem?

The word Liberal has become a four letter word in politics. Conservatives have managed to paint liberals as wishy-washy, hypocritical, tree-hugging, and human-hating people.?But Liberals are the dreamers, the people who can see new dawns in America.

Conservatives, by their nature, try to preserve and protect America’s image. They choose to have selective amnesia for the “greater good of the nation.”

Liberals pull the skeletons out of the closet and drop the dirty bones on the dinner table. They seek the truth, no matter how it makes America look. This to me is what it means to be a Liberal.

In 1940 Charlie Chaplin starred in a satirical political comedy-drama called “The Great Dictator.” In the film Chaplin gives one of the most stirring speeches in American History. It’s a shame this speech has been lost on so many generations. I’m sure conservatives see this speech much differently, but this speech is in essence what Liberals believe in.

Here is my favorite version of the speech from the Rishloo album. Watch below.
