Hamza Jeylani, who is 17, says the officer racially profiled him and his friends who were passengers in his car. Jeylani says he attempted to avoid the police officer when he first saw him, making a U-turn to go in the opposite direction. But the officer pulled him over anyway.

The officer, Rod Weber, can be heard on video telling the four young men:

“Plain and simple, if you f**k with me, I’m going to break your leg before you get the chance to run.?I’m being honest, I don’t screw around.”

Jeylani informs the officer he has no intention to run, which prompts this reply from Officer Weber:

“I’m just giving you a heads up. Just trying to be officer friendly right now.”

After this initial encounter with the police officer, the four youths were then pulled out of the car and told they were suspected of having stolen it. The young men were handcuffed as police searched the car and performed background checks on all of them. They were detained for nearly an hour.

At one point, Jeylani asks the cop:

“Can you tell me why I’m being arrested?”

Officer Weber replies:

?Because I feel like arresting you.”

The four young men, who are of Somali descent, believe they were racially profiled and plan to file a formal complaint as a result of the incident. One of them,?Liban Yusuf, told a reporter:

“They had their guns drawn. I don’t know why they were so aggressive.?

The Minneapolis Police Department says they are investigating the incident but would not comment on the matter beyond that statement.
