Duck Dynasty Goes To Washington? Jindal/Robertson 2016 In The Making?

In what is surely music to religious conservatives nationwide, Louisiana governor, Bobby Jindal shared his idea of who would be a good running mate for a presidential run in 2016.

On Good Friday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jindal was speaking at a prayer breakfast event and also was introducing?Duck Dynasty star, Willie Robertson who was the keynote speaker. Hilariously, Robertson received first billing with Jindal receiving a smaller font on the stage banner.

While using the opportunity to connect with the?”evangelical conservative activists,”?Jindal was asked if Robertson would make a good running mate:

“Yeah, but that font’s going to have to be reversed. It’s going to have to be reversed. As a running mate? Sure, but as vice president — I assume that’s what you’re asking — not the other way around. He’s a great guy, I think he’d be a great running mate. It’d be a huge pay cut for him, so I’m not sure he’d be willing to do it.”

Along with this statement, he called Robertson, “an icon, a cultural figure, and a hero of many.

Although the The Times-Picayune reports this as being said jokingly, I wouldn’t put it past any Republican to pull a stunt like this. Why?

Two words:?Sarah Palin.

With the popularity of?Duck Dynasty in conservative homes nationwide, it actually isn’t that bad of an idea. It would play upon the hearts of those who are dedicated fans to the television show and definitely upon the evangelical Christians who feel the Robertson family has been sent from Jesus himself.

Evangelical pastors in Iowa have a large influence in the nomination process for a presidential run. Jindal is not the only potential nominee wining and dining pastors in Iowa right now. With Rick Perry, Rand Paul, Scott Walker, and Ted Cruz either speaking to religious groups or being the sons of pastors, it is absolutely imperative that Jindal capture the attention of evangelical conservative Christians.

So, what better way to do that than toy with the idea of a running mate that is a superstar in Christian entertainment circles and on the screen of televisions nationwide??The only thing I can think Jindal could do to “improve” this sort of strategy is if he asked?patriarch, Phil Robertson, to be his running mate. With his rousing speech at the C-PAC convention this year, Robertson is a darling of the Republican party.

Joke or no joke. It’s a bad one. A very bad one. And I’m not laughing.
