I have been a Weird Al Yankovic fan for as long as I can remember.?I am glad that he is still around making music fun and also sending a worthwhile message. His newest song, “Word Crimes“ is a parody of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines“ and offers a comprehensive grammar lesson in a awesomely fun way.
Taking a stab at the use of improper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and all the things that?cause people?despair about the text language used by our children, Weird Al pokes fun at the blossoming new-age language emerging. He calls out the use of shortened forms of words such as B, C, U, and R, and many other texting shortcuts that our children are using as everyday language.
My tween-aged daughter has recently begun using the phrase “hashtag” before making profound statements such as “Hashtag – shocked face” and “Hashtag – my mother is so embarrassing.” Everything now has a hashtag. #ThankYouTwitter
