Amputee Aims To Change Society With This Incredible Video

We’ve become accustomed to seeing the pop stars on our radios, televisions, and computer screens with perfect bodies. On magazine covers, they are made even more perfect (if that’s possible) with Photoshop and airbrushing. Imperfection is not acceptable in the world of pop stars. Oh sure, we’ve managed to have a few plus-size singers make it big, but that is not the cultural norm.

Until now. Viktorija Moskajova aims to change that with this video of her song “Prototype.”

Known as Viktoria Modesta, Moskajova underwent a voluntary below-the-knee leg amputation due to lifelong problems with her left leg. She’s also a model and singer. Furthermore, she doesn’t cover up her prosthetic.

Regarding her feelings on disability, Modesta had this to say:

“The time for boring ethical discussions around disability is over. It’s only through feelings of admiration, aspiration, curiosity, and envy that we can move forward.”

I love this video. I could watch it over and over. In fact, I have. Society has often looked at amputees as sub-humans who should be offered sympathy. Not this one though. She stomps all over that idea with her  sophisticated pointed prosthetic in this video. Her confidence in this video is inspiring and contagious. I hope she makes it big here, so she can serve as an inspiration to those we would consider “disabled.”
