Devin Gesell, 17, and his two other partners broke in to a St. Peters, Missouri residence on November 22. According to a probable cause statement obtained by The Smoking Gun, Gesell admitted they stole:

“jewelry, prescription medications, an Xbox 360 game system, and Xbox One game system, cash, and the ashes/remains of the victim’s father.”

Yep. Along with $825 in cash and items valued at more than $2000, they also stole the cremated remains of the house owner’s father.

Better yet, they didn’t realize they stole the remains. In discovering the powdery substance, they thought they had hit the jackpot and found a stash of cocaine. They later discovered it was not cocaine after it was TASTED by one of the not so smart bandits.

Gesell is now being charged with several felonies while his other would-be partners in crime are being charged as juveniles.

The Smoking Gun also added that?the group of teenagers are not the only ones to mistake cremated remains for cocaine or other drugs. In 2011 in Florida, five teenagers broke into a home and stole a container with what they thought was heroin or cocaine. They discovered it was neither after one decided to snort the ashes. The ashes were actually the remains of the victim’s father and dogs.

Keep your urns and your loved ones’ remains safe everybody.
