Conservative columnist Pamela Geller believes there should have been an extra statuette handed out at last month’s Academy Awards. In a column she wrote for WorldNetDaily, Geller says the added Oscar should have gone to Jon Stewart, host of “The Daily Show”. This particular Oscar, she writes, would have been for “Most Disgusting Jew on the Planet.”
Copiously quoting every right wing lugnut’s favorite author, Ayn Rand, throughout her rambling piece she titled “The Poo Generation” (is this woman seven-years-old?) Geller rails against Muslims, the Oscars, TV, public education, and global warming. But she reserves a big chunk of her misplaced hatred for Jon Stewart.
?This vicious traitor, smug and self-righteous, has long been working for the other side under the guise of comedy. Vile. Jon Stewart defines self-loathing Jew. But that’s not enough. He means to take us down with him.?
Typical conservative tactic. You disagree with someone’s political leanings so you decide to attack them personally. When in doubt, these folks seem to believe, go negative and aim for the lowest common denominator.
Geller, however, was just getting warmed up. She launched into a semi-coherent diatribe of existential angst. One in which she decided the entire world is coming apart at the seams by saying:
“The culture is ugly. Ugly as poo. The music is ugly, violent and misogynistic. Every crime drama and suspense series is rife with the most unimaginable gore. ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Law and Order (Sex Crimes),’ ‘American Horror Story’ ? they’re all devoid of humanity and morality. Devoid of goodness. It’s a cultural rout. It’s not that the line between good and evil has been blurred ? it’s nonexistent. We are living in a cultural free-for-all, or more accurately, a free fall.”
I wonder if it ever occurs to Ms. Geller to turn off her television if she doesn’t like what she sees on it. Also, “devoid of goodness?” Has Geller taken time to look in the mirror or read her own hackish tripe lately?
She finishes, with a hate-filled flourish that would make a minister blush, with a blatant lack of disregard for the humanity of a fellow traveler along this highway we call life.
“Sharing their disdain for America is Jon Stewart, to whom they should have given the ‘Most Disgusting Jew on the Planet Award.’ No contest. After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ground-breaking speech to Congress last week, Stewart scoffed at the many standing ovations Netanyahu received as the ‘longest b–wjob a Jewish man has ever received.'”
I watch “The Daily Show” each and every evening. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I find the humor, the willingness to confront even the most delicate of issues, and yes, the humanity of the show, to be much more uplifting than anything Pamela Geller could ever write. I think she has more than earned the award for “Biggest Killjoy on the Planet”.
