Rick Perry Expresses Concern Over Soviet-Era Iran, Uses Wrong Map

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is flexing his foreign policy muscle, presumably to show the world his “expertise” in anticipation of the 2016 presidential election.?His political action committee (RickPAC) has released a video that aims to scold?the Obama administration for its efforts to negotiate (gasp — negotiate!) with Iran. There’s only one problem, though…

In the video, Perry uses a map of Iran surrounded by parts of the former Soviet Union. The world he warns about has not been in existence for more than 20 years — in fact, not since the breakup of the U.S.S.R.

The screengrab of the map used in the video, via the Washington Post:

From WaPo:

Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkmenistan became independent in 1991. They are no longer “S.S.R.”s ?Soviet Socialist Republics. Note, too, the dashed southwestern border of Israel. That suggests that the map may be even older, dating to the period during which Israel still occupied much of the Sinai Peninsula.

Oh, Rick, we DO love you! We do! And this kind of stuff is why, you silly buffoon.
