The American Kennel Club (AKC) has just released its annual list of the most popular dog breeds for 2014, and the Labrador Retriever reigns supreme as best of “Man’s Best Friend.” The Labrador has been in the top spot for 24 consecutive years. Here’s the full list. Is your canine buddy among the Top 10?
1. Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever is a great family dog. They are known for being even-tempered and wonderful with children.
2. German Shepherd
Some consider the German Shepherd to be the best “protection” dog in the world. Among their human family, however, they are gentle and loving.
3. Golden Retriever
Like the Labrador, the Golden is kind, gentle, loyal, and does well in families.
4. Bulldog
The Bulldog has rocketed up the AKC charts in recent years. They are known to be stubborn and somewhat hard to train, but they also make superb pets.
?5. Beagle
If you’ve ever heard a Beagle howl, they you’ll quickly realize they are not the ideal dog for apartment dwellers.
?6. Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkies are cute, but their long hair requires a great deal of care. They don’t tend to scare many people.
7. Poodle
The Poodle consistently ranks among the most intelligent of dogs. Some owners give them what others consider to be ridiculous hairstyles.
8. Boxer
The Boxer is a sweet-tempered dog that loves its human family and is as loyal as the day is long.
9. French Bulldog
Frenchies are hard to miss with their batlike ears and cute faces. No other dog looks quite like this.
?10. Rottweiler
Put a Rottie at your front door and dare the bad guys to break into your house. These dogs are intensely loyal to their human family.
