Why Being A Republican Isn’t Working Anymore

It has been 15 years since the 21st century started and proper change has been hard to come by. One of the reasons is that change in politics has been little to none and that change has not been a continuous process as the world of media?has brought candidate and voter closer than ever. This trend has led to the typical politician being put under a media-scope.

This is why many politicians have tried to stay out of the limelight and go about their everyday business. Unfortunately, the world has become an unforgiving place as new information is so readily available and can be used almost immediately.

This has led the media to light up the airwaves with insensitive comments, such as the recent comments by Utah Rep Brian Greene (R) who said:

“If an individual has sex with their wife while she is unconscious … a prosecutor could then charge that spouse with rape, theoretically.”

He later added,

“That makes sense in a first-date scenario, but to me, not where people have a history of years of sexual activity.”

While some may find the quote not so bad (we find it morally repugnant here at Liberal America),?its underlying theme or foundation is pure ignorance. It is no surprise that it is coming from the Republican Party, which is trying to rebuild its image as a more accepting political party.

With this new string of comments, rebuilding has become nearly impossible for the Reds. For the most part, their efforts have failed because each time they get close to partially restoring their image they remove the wrong block from the leaning Jenga tower which then falls to the floor below.

Also, as this might seem like merely a common practice in the small picture, the resulting criticism on the national level only sets the Republicans farther and farther back from their goal. This comes at a time where the Republicans need every last drop of credibility to regain their status as legitimate.

Lastly, the continuing string of intolerance and pure ignorance has made it hard for so many to stay Red when their leaders endorse those flawed principles. This has also led them to become reactive instead of proactive. Instead of doing the research or using common sense, they seem to make a senseless statement that only comes back to haunt them. If you are going to be Red, stay far far away from the fear of change that looms in Red hearts. The worst thing you can say is “We’ve always done it this way.”
