Obama Uses National Prayer Breakfast To Remind Folks Of Christianity’s Bloody History

At the National Prayer Breakfast, Pres. Obama has managed to enrage the evangelical right (again) — and we love it. History and facts are mightily inconvenient, aren’t they?

Pres. Obama pointed out that although religion is a source for good around the world, there will always be people who will “hijack religion for their own murderous ends.”?The president’s “offensive” remarks:

“We have seen violence and terror perpetrated by those who profess to stand up for faith, their faith. Professed to stand up for Islam, but in fact are betraying it. Humanity has been grappling with these questions throughout human history. And lest we get on our high horse and think this is (pause) unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow, all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

Disgraced “journalist” and former Crossfire host Tucker Carlson:

“Here’s the Smartest President Ever, scolding the attendees of the National Prayer Breakfast this morning for thinking Islamic terrorism is a problem.”

College dropout and radio entertainer Rush Limbaugh said this and much more.

“He has a problem with this nation’s founding. He has a deep-seated problem with this nation’s existence. He doesn’t like the fact that we’re a superpower, thinks it’s not been honestly earned.”

Charles Krauthammer:

“I was stunned that the president could say something so, I mean, at once, banal and offensive.”

We did get a surprisingly neutral response from Breitbart, however. They pointed out that Pres. Obama denounced?Islamist terrorists.

Obama also denounced Islamic State terrorists for professing to stand up for Islam when they were actually ?betraying it.?

?We see ISIL, a brutal vicious death cult that in the name of religion carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism,? he said criticizing them for ?claiming the mantle of religious authority for such actions.?
