Former Arkansas Governor, likely 2016 Republican presidential candidate, and the author of God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy Mike Huckabee told CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday?that he had plenty of gay friends, as well as all manner of other sinning friends.
?Well, people can be my friends who have a lifestyle that are not necessarily my lifestyle. I don’t shut people out of my life because they have a different point of view.?
He clarified:
“I don’t drink alcohol, but gosh, a lot of my friends, maybe most of them do. You know, I don’t use profanity, but believe me, I’ve got a lot of friends who do. Some people like classical music, ballet, and opera, but it’s not my cup of tea.”
Huckabee?resents the marriage equality advocates, though.
?I’d like to think there’s room in America for people who have different points of view without screaming and shouting and wanting to shut their businesses down,.
But Huck is concerned that people can’t just disagree. He thinks that we who oppose businesses who discriminate want to not “disagree” but to actually close businesses down. Well, no, we don’t, but Republicans never want to do that, ever, right?
Dana Bash then pointed out how many Republians are now supporting marriage equality. She pulled up this graph and you could actully, I believe, see Huck’s face getting red.
He said he hopes the party doesn’t change his overall view, but he continued with this:
“The very thought I’m willing to talk about the relationships I have with friends who are gay indicates that I’m not a person who shuts everybody out around me who disagree.”
Huckabee said that he has a “lot more interesting conversations with people who don’t agree” with him. He indicated that he’s eager to “lead” and “govern” these people. Yes, he used those words. He does admit that he will NEVER evolve.
?It would be like asking a Jewish deli to serve bacon-wrapped shrimp, or? ? and here Huckabee revealed the extent of his knowledge about Islam ? ?asking a Muslim to do serve up something that is offensive to him, or have dogs in his backyard.?
