Jill Duggar, who was 21 at the time, was “very excited to assist Susanna through the birth,” according to an unnamed source. Susanna Keller’s older sister, Anna, is married to Josh Duggar, the oldest of the reality-show stars Jim Bob and Michelle?Duggar’s 19 children.
Jill and Susanna were close, and Susanna was a notable presence on TLC’s?19 Kids and Counting in the 2008 season. All of that changed when Susanna became pregnant and did not wish to?marry the father of the baby.
Suddenly, Susanna was absent from any episode of the show and her name was no longer mentioned. Despite the adult Jill’s wish to serve as midwife for Susanna, the Duggars strictly forbid her to do so. They believed that Jill, a legally adult trained and licensed midwife, “shouldn’t be exposed to an unmarried mother in that condition.”
The Duggars have banned any contact with Susanna, and were reportedly “upset when she allowed her 2-year-old daughter to dance last year at a family event.”
Other things the Duggars don’t allow for their adult children? Dancing, the beach,?non-group texts. Is anyone else over the age of 17 creeped out at the idea of their parents reading all of their texts?
The Duggars have created a slew of controversy lately. A political effort by Michelle, including robocalls that warned voters that transgender teachers were sex offenders and would be allowed to use the bathroom with their daughters unless employers and public housing authorities were allowed to discriminate against LGBT persons, helped overturn anti-discrimination ordinances and?prompted backlash and even a petition to cancel the show. More backlash came when the Duggars posted a Christmas picture of their 16-year-old son, Jedidah, holding his gift, a shotgun.
The couple also deleted photos of same-sex couples kissing after asking fans to post kissing pictures and hid from the public Michelle’s sister, Evelyn, because she is a lesbian. Evelyn’s partner, Sharon, worries that the Duggar’s extreme religious views are becoming even more extreme due to the Duggars involvement with the fundamentalist Christian movement, Quiverfull.
Sharon believes that Quiverfull,?a movement that emphasizes the belief that?all use of birth control is a sin, is?”a cult. It appears to be brainwashing to me.”
The wholesome, Christian image of the Duggars seems tarnished more and more with each uncovered secret. Have they never heard the concept of Christian forgiveness or love for their neighbors? Have they forgotten?about?being without sin before casting stones? It seems that someone has skipped a whole lot of Biblical lessons.
