Guantanamo Prisoner Alleges Sexual Assault By Two Female Guards

In his book, “Guantanamo Diary,“?Mohamedou Ould Slahi writes about?his 12?years in?U.S. custody. Department of Defense?officials?redacted much of it, but publishers have not let that stop them from printing it, with the black redaction bars?simply carried over into the text of the book.

Slahi’s?story, which is as saddening as it is horrifying, includes graphic accounts of the ways in which he and his fellow prisoners were abused and tortured. It also includes allegations that he was sexually assaulted?by two female prison guards.

According to Slahi, the sexual abuse began when the two guards ordered him to get up because they?were?”gonna teach [him] about great American sex.” They disrobed and began talking about “all kinds of dirty stuff.” Slahi says that their nudity and vulgarness did not bother him all that much, but writes, “What hurt me most was them forcing me to take part in a sexual threesome in the most degrading manner.”

The book comes?just weeks after the Senate released its own report on the CIA‘s illegal use of torture on detainees during the Bush administration. The report included?accounts from individuals who worked for the CIA who “admitted to sexual assault.”

We know that detainees were not only tortured, but also sexually assaulted. We know it because detainees like Slahi have told us about it and because the perpetrators have admitted to it. What no one seems to know is what it will take to prosecute?those responsible for these crimes against humanity and those who lied about it.
