Why Are Republicans Willfully Ignorant?

Most Republicans and other global warming naysayers are continuously denying facts. As we all have heard, 2014 was a very warm year, the hottest since 1880. ?MIT professor Dr. Richard Lindzen further fueled the fire when recently, he publicly stated that people who believe in global warming are becoming ‘hysterical’ and even compared us to a cult.

As with all global warming deniers, the argument remains the same. The temperature isn’t going up fast enough to be a problem, or it’s just earth going through a phase. Another favorite of mine is when it’s a cold day and Donald Trump, along with other republicans, tweet about how global warming is a hoax simply because it’s cold. I’m convinced these people are just so gungho about disagreeing with everything from the left that they refuse to switch positions simply because it would make them appear weak.

People who believe in global warming still own winter coats, still have snow shovels, and still have fireplaces. We are talking about a trend, not daily occurrences, and the trend is frightening.

Global warming chart

According to the IPCC climate change report, at the current rate, by mid century temperatures will increase by about another 2?C (3.6?F) compared to temperatures from 1986 to 2005. In addition, ocean acidification, which comes from the added carbon absorbed by oceans, will harm marine life.

Thankfully, our president recognizes the problem at hand and threatens to veto any bill from Republicans that undermines his efforts to preserve the environment. Of course, this frightens me because if a republican president takes office in 2016, will he veto legislation like Obama would? Odds are, no, and it will put us on an even faster track to floods, droughts, heat waves, and even higher sea levels.

Here’s what I don’t understand; even if Republicans don’t believe in global warming, where are their FACTS that it doesn’t exist? Liberals have their facts and figures, whereas conservatives sound like whiny babies with their argument, which is basically “it’s just happening”. Hey, here’s an idea. Instead of denying global warming with no real argument, why don’t you join us in an attempt to control it. Best case scenario for republicans? It fails over time and they have more propaganda to bash us liberals with. Worst case for them? We begin to regulate it, and in turn, save our environment. Sounds like a win win to me, so what are you guys?waiting for?
