From the get go, the phone targeted the upper class ? from the exclusive contract with AT&T, one of the most expensive carriers in the United States, to the market price. At US$599.00 for 8GB of storage space and US$499.00 for 4GB of storage, it was one the most expensive phones you could get at the time.

The press release from Apple promised a revolution in the art of calling. In the form of a 3.5 inch smooth screen and no buttons?it was the?first fully touch screen cellular phone on the market. It was also the first to include built-in sensors such as an accelerometer, a proximity sensor, and an ambient light sensor. The Pew Research Center seemed to agree. In June of 2013, it published an extensive study illustrating the typical iPhone user. The typical iPhone user was found to be wealthy, old, and educated.

Slice, a company that tracks iPhone purchases, also reported that 80 percent of iPhone 6 buyers were males and over 60 percent made more than 75K a year.

As of May of 2013, however, the platform of choice reported by the same study shows Android with 28 percent and iPhone coming in close second with 25 percent.

Is Apple really defining the new meaning of successful and smart?
