Top Ten Bible Verses Mike Huckabee Should Reread

Recently in an?interview with televangelist James Robison on his show Life Today, former Arkansas governor, ordained Southern Baptist minister, possible 2016 presidential hopeful, and Beyonc? fan, Mike Huckabee touted the “fair” tax as “biblical.” While promoting his recently released book, God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy,?he?proposed doing away with the Internal Revenue Service?and all federal taxes and replacing them with a 30 percent tax on consumption. Huckabee explained:

“I believe in the biblical understanding of stewardship. Everybody should have something invested. God doesn’t say, ‘Oh, you’re too poor, don’t give anything.’ He says, ‘Everyone give a tithe.’ I’m telling you something, giving proportionately is biblical.”

It goes without saying that a richer person would have an easier time affording the 30 percent tax on a loaf of bread or a gallon of gasoline than a poorer?one would. To say the least, Mr. Huckabee has an interesting idea of what’s proportionate. It seems that even the Bible takes into account a person’s ability or inability to pay for something. For this reason, let’s go over some Bible verses that Huckabee ought to?review.

1.?2 Corinthians 8:12

“For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.”

This is pretty self-explanatory, don’t you think?

2.?Luke 11:42

“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.”

Tell me, what is “just” about the poor being forced to pay a tax they can’t afford?

3.?1 Timothy 6:10

“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wondered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”

Mike Huckabee only cares about holding on to his money, honey!

4.?Matthew 23:23:

“Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others.”

The good reverend ignores the most basic teachings of the Bible, whose teachings he claims to promote. Instead of focusing on “weightier matters” like poverty and justice, he instead has been worrying about what music Obama’s daughters are listening to!

5.?Proverbs 19:17:

“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.”

Besides starting ARKids , which helps provide healthcare to low-income children in Arkansas, what else has the Huckster done to help the poor?

6. Hebrews 13:16:

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”

Where exactly in his political platform does Brother Mike promote sharing?

7.?Proverbs 29:7:

“A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge.”

Hmm…

8. Proverbs 17:5:

“Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.”

Quite frankly, I don’t know if Mr. Huckabee has ever actually “mocked” the poor, but you can be sure a lot of his fans certainly have!

9. James 2:14-17:

“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled’, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also by faith itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

Need I say more?

And finally…

10. Matthew 25:40:

“And the king will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'”

Mike might have some explaining to do one day . . .
