Watch These Daring Kids Eat Escargot For The First Time (Video)

In what seems like “forever and a day” ago?(my teen years)?I worked in a restaurant that served Escargot. My job was?in the kitchen, often expediting orders.?Oh, how I hated when a plate of those shells with the green “ooze” was placed in the window. Of course, now I realize the “ooze” was simply butter, garlic, and parsley.

These kids depict?the experience perfectly. Only, they were far more brave than I – they actually tried it!

Watch what happens when these kids eat escargot for the first time in this hilarious video from React.

Kudos to these kids for being so daring. My logic tells me this is really no different than consuming clams, scallops, or other shellfish. But, there still seems to be a bit of a personal hangup with the whole snail thing. Ahh, relativism.

Here are a few interesting facts about the French delicacy from Snail-World.com.

  • ?“Since prehistoric times, man all over the world consumed what they could for survival, and that sometimes included snails. In several parts of the ancient world including the Roman Empire, snails were eaten frequently.”
  • “May 24th is the National Escargot Day.”
  • “It is believed that snails for eating were brought to the United States (California) in the 1850?s.”
  • “The most common type of snail used is the garden variety. However, if you have a garden and they are present do not try to trap them and process them yourself. . . wild snails can carry a parasite that can cause meningitis.”
