It is always discouraging to see people try to get publicity off of the memorial of an icon or profit off of a sensational tragedy. Almost every year we see an organization or company try to cash in on an icon or an event that we are all emotional to.

One good example of this would be the excellent write up Ian Millhiser did for think progress. His article highlighted companies that went out of their ways to promote themselves on September 11.

So why is it that people think it is ok to promote themselves on Martin Luther King day? Are people truly that ignorant of what is seen as acceptable and unacceptable ways to remember and grieve over the ones we have lost? It seems that absolutely nothing is sacred anymore. The good news is we haven’t seen any NFL players beat up their girlfriends in a while. I can’t help but wonder if that is as much progress as we are going to see from the NFL.

The NFL has seen its fair share of controversy over the last year,?everything from how football players treat women in their culture of violence and the lack of openly gay football players in the NFL
