Gun Shop Owner Shot In Botched Robbery

Is the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre sure that the only thing to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun? If that is true, then the four men who attempted a robbery reminiscent of the old West Friday afternoon should be pushing up daisies.? But they are not.

They tried to rob She’s A Pistol Gun Shop and Range Friday afternoon in Shawnee, Kan. (a pleasant suburb of Kansas City). The business is located next to the Shawnee City Hall and caters to women.

A gun shop and range is pretty well armed. But in spite of the abundance of guns and skills of the good guys, the robbers did some pretty serious damage. The man in the husband-and-wife-owned shop was shot and killed.

County officials described the scene. KSHB.com says:

“Johnson County officials said four people were shot and three are in critical condition following a shooting at She’s a Pistol on Friday. A fifth person was assaulted.?

Dan Tennis, Major with the Shawnee Police Department, said four men tried to rob the business. The two owners were at the business at the time.?The female owner was punched, and the male owner was shot.?

Three suspects were shot. Two of the suspects were shot in the business when police arrived. Two suspects fled on foot. The male business owner is in critical condition. (Update: one owner died.) Three of the suspects were also taken to the hospital.”

I grew up in rural eastern Kansas, and my dad always had a rifle in the house. I only remember him using it twice. Once was when a cougar was after our animals. The other time was when a dog went bad, and that was very hard on dad. When he was a young man, Dad hunted for food. He also served as a sharp shooter in WWII. So I had no doubt that he would use it if needed.

There is a place for guns. And choosing a gun shop next to a city hall might not be the smartest place to rob. But being a good guy doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to take out the bad guys. That is a something to keep in mind.
