It’s Official: Ted Cruz Will Never Get A 2016 Endorsement From GOP Leaders

Ted Cruz angered his Republican colleagues today for his rush to challenge President Obama’s executive action on immigration.

The move made little sense to most, since ?the GOP lacks the votes to stop Obama on immigration now, the $1.1 trillion spending package was speeding to passage, and they won’t resort to shutting down the government to mount their objections,? making Cruz’s strategy one that Republicans were especially vocal about their frustration with Cruz’s strategies. Mike Lee, the Republican Senator from Utah, compared the move to the government shutdown of 2013 when he said:

?It was a movie he had seen before and ?wouldn’t have paid money to see it again.??

Orrin Hatch, Republican Senator from Utah, sniped:

“You should have an end goal in sight if you’re going to do these types of things and I don’t see an end goal other than irritating a lot of people.?

On the floor, angry Republicans called out to Cruz, asking if he were using this senseless strategy as a fundraiser. Johnny Isakson, the Republican Senator from Georgia, was bewildered as he?said:

?I don’t know what the strategy is.?

Worse for Cruz, who is considering a 2016 presidential bid, he distanced himself from the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, and Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, when he insinuated that the two were not honest about their plans to challenge President Obama’s executive action on immigration in January once Republicans gained control of the Senate.

A weekend session was called, which provided the time for Democrat Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, to set up confirmation for some of Obama’s nominees, such as Vivek Murphy as Surgeon General and Anthony Blinken as Deputy Secretary of State, and Sarah Saldana as Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, who will oversee enforcement of immigration laws and will ultimately see that the executive order Cruz called the session to challenge will be implemented.

Moments before the immigration vote Cruz had been pushing, he addressed a crowd, saying “both Democrats and Republicans will have the opportunity to show America whether they stand with a president who is defying the will of the voters or with the millions of Americans who want a safe and legal immigration system.?

Cruz lost the vote 74-22.

On Up with Steve Kornacki, analysts noted that Cruz ?didn’t have an end game in sight?and asserted that ?what that vote showed was a protest by the within the Senate Republican Conference by the Majority Leader himself,? since ?McConnell voted against Cruz.?

Moments later, Congress cleared a $1.1 trillion spending bill.
