While there is nothing new about Fox News going against everything that President Obama says or does, today’s discussion on Fox and Friends was especially entertaining. Considering that the topic was basically Fox News on Obama’s use of scripture in his immigration speech earlier this week, the hypocrisy and word spinning was sure to be plentiful.
The actual quote involving scripture delivered by the President was this:
? Scripture tells us that we shall not oppress a stranger, for we know the heart of a stranger. We were strangers once too. My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants.?
Of course, this did not sit well with the Fox and Friends hosts. So much so that Tucker Carlson referred to the President as the ?Bible Scholar-in-Chief .? While Tucker had other quick one-liners to throw at the President, you know Elisabeth Hasselbeck couldn’t hold back.
While having her own holier-than thou opinion, she went so far as to quote a scripture out of Proverbs to make her point, to the obvious joy of Tucker Carlson, saying:
?Proverbs 11: 14 if you want to get into a scripture showdown, ?Where there’s no guidance the people fall, but in the abundance of counselors there is victory. The way of fools where it seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice?.
Really Elisabeth? Interpretation is key in these matters, and the crew over at Fox seem to only interpret the Bible in a way that best suits their own agenda and beliefs.
Even to this point, how could one interpret in a bad way that ?we shall not oppress a stranger?? Leave it to her to try. While Steve Doocy played his usual third-string role by backing up the others opinions, perhaps the best quote to sum up Fox and Friends political agenda came from Tucker.
While the President’s statement was in no way a lecture on Christian faith, Tucker gave his own spin on Obama’s use of scripture by saying:
?We can have a political debate, but for this guy, specifically the President who spent his career defending late-term abortion among other things, lecturing us on Christian faith, that’s too much. That is too much. We always hear the ?Christian Right, the Christian Right?, this is the Christian Left at work, and it’s repugnant.?
While there should be no room for religion in politics, it’s sad to see that opinions differ so widely that there has to be a Christian Left and a Christian Right. I thought the Jesus taught ?love thy neighbor? and things of that sort. I guess I missed the part where he said ?only if.?
