Dartmouth Students Humiliate Rick Perry With Explicit Sexuality Questions

Dartmouth College, an Ivy League University located in New Hampshire, had a tongue-in-cheek (I’m going to say cheek, though some of the students would use a different body part) Q&A session with Texas Governor Rick Perry on Sunday, November 9th. ?Perry had been invited to speak on several topics including border security, fiscal policy, and foreign policy relating to a possible 2016 bid for the Presidential Election. ?However, when the open question-and-answer session started, some of the questions took an odd turn.

Prior to the event, a 2017 student named Ben Packer passed out a sheet with several suggested questions for the incumbent Governor of Texas, according to Dartmouth’s campus newspaper. ?The sheet contained several less-than-professional inquiries for Perry regarding his draconian stance on same-sex marriage. ?These are just a few:

  1. In 2002, you supported Texas’s anti-sodomy law. ?Do you dislike bootysex because the peeny goes in where the poopy comes out?
  2. Does your ideal anti-sodomy law prevent me from playing with my own poop shoot?
  3. If new documents revealed that Jesus liked to play with his own hairy hollow, would you change your opinion?
  4. I know you have been very strong on all foreign policy issues, including Somali pirates, but what is your stance on butt pirates?

The full list had a total of 11 items, and was designed to allow students to “incorporate a little trolling or subversion” into Perry’s visit. ?Various reports state that Perry dodged the questions, though he reportedly appeared embarrassed by them, before leaving the stage once the event was over.

Don’t misunderstand: I stand by my earlier statement about Perry’s draconian stance on same-sex marriage (and a myriad of other topics), and I would never want to see him in office again. ?However, this tactic was far from effective. ?You see, the Right typically has to make up arguments against us in order to have anything resembling a solid stance. ?These types of stunts give them ammunition that actually exists, and they quickly take advantage of it. ?Conservative outlets everywhere are calling these students (and liberals everywhere) immature, and praising Perry for?the gracious way he handled the situation.

Packer went to Facebook to defend his actions, however. ?In a post, he stated, “To tell me I represented Dartmouth poorly is ironic. The roomful of people chatting with Rick Perry without discussing his social policy represents Dartmouth poorly.” ?To a degree, I see what he means. ?Just this morning, a colleague of mine?pointed out that Perry is not the kind of man one can have a rational dialogue with. ?And while I believe this is very true, our target isn’t Perry – our targets are voters who remember stunts like this with disdain.

If we want to point out that his policies and stances are awful, we need to be direct and corner him using intelligent, sophisticated questioning about his policies. Is Perry heterosexist? ?Yes. ?Is he terrible for this country? ?Yes. ?Did these Dartmouth students?have a valid point to make? ?Yes. ?They did indeed make a statement, but I don’t think it was the best way to make it. ?Let’s prove that we’re the more sophisticated, caring, and respectful party in all of this mess.

However, there is one question that still interests me: would Rick Perry have anal sex for $102 million in campaign contributions? ?I suppose now we’ll never know.
