Mark Cuban: To Survive, The GOP Just Needs To Do One Thing

Billionaire?Mark Cuban?– owner of NBA team the Dallas Mavericks and star of the popular TV show Shark Tank — was interviewed on?CNBC earlier this week?and the topic of politics came up. He offered one piece of advice to the tone-deaf GOP: stay away from social issues! Period.

Cuban dislikes both of the major parties and considers himself to be a libertarian-leaning independent.?But the GOP? He has especially strong words for them.

?If I was going to give guidance to the Republican party,? Cuban said, ?I’d say stay completely out of social issues and if you stay out of social issues, the conversation from that side will only be around economics and business and growing business and ideas.?

He hasn’t lost hope, though.

“The good news is that 25-year-olds, 20-year-olds, they’re not listening to politicians, just like we never listened to politicans. They’re just gonna go out, follow their ambitions, work hard….anything is possible.”

When asked why he thinks the “social liberal, fiscally conservative” crowd can’t get a party of its own together, he explained that he used to try to fund third parties, but he states unequivocally that it’s nearly impossible to break the existing two-party stronghold.

He doesn’t think it’s completely impossible, however. He said he hopes “somebody with some piss and vinegar is gonna step up and do it.”

My opinion? This dude has quite a bit of piss and vinegar. If he couldn’t make it happen, it will be really hard for anyone else to. The question is, will the GOP even consider his advice? Nope. And why is that? Because they can’t stop talking about social issues. They’ve spent years mesmerizing their ignorant base on abortion, gay marriage, guns, etc…to stop now would mean losing their base.
