Bullied 10 Year Old Who Cut Hair For Charity Told To Toughen Up By Principal

Jetta Fosberg, a beautiful 10-year-old girl, wanted to help out the children of the world who are less fortunate. She decided to cut off most of her hair and donate it to a popular charity called “Wigs for Kids,” which?is a non-profit organization that donates wigs to children battling and recovering from cancer.

Jetta originally donated 14 inches of her hair and later decided that she wanted to cut off even more. While Jetta’s mother, Heidi. created social media pages supporting Jetta, some children at school were harsh.

Fosberg said that some boys at her school called her “ugly” and even said that she must want to be a boy. When Fosberg told her mother, they reported the bullying to the school. However, Fosberg’s mother spoke with WHIO and shared that the school’s principal?only dismissed the claims of bullying.

“And (he) told me that he didn’t know of any child that had ever died from words, and that we needed to toughen up and deal with it, and he would deal with it how he saw appropriate which was obviously not the response we were looking for.”

School officials have since contacted WHIO and have said they are investigating.

This is so troubling to me. Of course, calling anyone ugly for any reason is just a vile form of bullying. Also, implying that a young girl must want to be a boy because of a certain haircut (or clothing, hobbies, etc) serves no purpose. Young kids do not need to be trapped in the often obsessive and label-driven culture that encompasses the lives of so many adults. Let’s not get even get started on the school’s first response to claims of bullying.

Jetta did a tremendous thing; something I do not even know if I would have the courage to do. This little girl should have been applauded and not degraded. Sure, kids are kids, and they may not even understand the triumphant act that she did in its totality, but they should have at least recognized it as something that was positive.

I hope the parents of the boys who bullied Ms. Fosberg use this as a teaching moment, and hopefully they will grow into distinguished and charitable men.
