Rival Soccer Team Hurls Ebola Taunts At African Teen

Let the cruelty and discrimination begin!

NBC Philadelphia is reporting that two Pennsylvania boys varsity soccer coaches have resigned after complaints were received that their players hurled Ebola taunts at a member of the opposing team. The opposing team member happens to be from West Africa and is under the legal guardianship of Fountain Hill Police Chief Edward Bachert.

The unnamed player is 16 years old and from Guinea. His parents still live in Guinea?and he has concerns about Ebola in his home country. From NBC Philadelphia:

[Bachert] says the boy was shaken by the taunts. But he says Nazareth students have rallied behind him. Some have posted tweets with the hashtag, “EndRacism.”?Northampton is about 55 miles north of Philadelphia.

Northampton Area Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik says that he met with the team on Wednesday and will discipline the students who violated the school’s anti-discrimination policy.

I fear this type of thing will get much worse before it gets better. Maybe I just don’t have a whole lot of faith in humanity right now.
