Introducing The Dating App Where Poor People Are Not Welcome

Online dating….there’s never been anything like it in the history of the world. I’ve been dating for a long time, and I can say that there are good and bad things about online dating, but overall, I do believe it’s possible to meet Mr. or Ms. Wonderful online. But if you’re planning to use the new?Luxy?dating app, just know that if you’re not wealthy, you’re unwelcome. In fact, it’s slogan is actually??Tinder, minus the poor people.?

Wow.

Luxy wants only the most elite singles, including millionaires, high-level executives, celebrities, and supermodels. The average Luxy user reportedly makes at least $250,000 and there are?supposedly?already more than 3,000 users.?From Business Insider:

“With the rise of high-speed digital dating, it’s about time somebody introduced a filter to weed out low-income prospects by neighborhood,” Luxy’s nameless CEO said in a press release. (Luxy’s CEO doesn’t name himself because of the controversial nature of Luxy.)

He also says that the app allows people to “weed out the poor and unattractive.”

There’s no formal verification process in place (yet). The expectation is that the Luxy community will be the judge of a person’s worthiness based on profile information and appearance. From Newxtshark:

“If you show up in a 20-year-old VW Bug, and request to meet at McDonald’s, you won’t last very long on Luxy,”?Shuster told CNN. “Look, these members drive the best cars, hang out at the fanciest hotels, live in the biggest houses, wear the best clothes. It doesn’t take long to weed out those who belong on a different kind of dating site.”

When you sign up as a new user on Luxy, you are prompted to select your favorite brands — Gucci, Prada, Cartier, etc… The idea is that, presumably, people will bond over their shared brand interests.

The CEO, named “Tim,” granted an interview to Nextshark?and you can watch a wordless but detailed video overview on YouTube. Jimmy Kimmel has also hilariously interviewed one of the founders (video below).

Do we care? Should we care? Frankly, I’m glad that these pretentious and shallow goofs will be congregating all together in one place.
