From The Daily Mail:

As an American citizen, it is highly unusual that Jolie has received an honour from Britain. Foreigners are only occasionally awarded them ? there was an honorary knighthood for Bob Geldof, who is Irish, after Live Aid.

It is also unusual for a damehood to be bestowed upon someone so young. The honour is generally bestowed later in life, after a recipient has earned a lower honour such as an OBE or a CBE.

She’s in lofty company. Other recipients of the honor?have included Bill Gates and U2 frontman Bono. Jolie can’t be addressed as Dame because she’s a foreign citizen, but she can use the initials DCMG after her name.

Angelina Jolie, along with Foreign Secretary William Hague, co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) in 2012 after Hague saw?Jolie’s 2012 film about Bosnian rape camps. In these camps, women were?kept prisoner and only released when they were pregnant.

If you want details about Jolie’s?dress, hair, and makeup (hey, some people do!), you can check out Haute Talk‘s piece about the event. In short, she was sheer beauty and elegance, and she didn’t wear black.
