Dallas, TX Patient Tests Positive For Ebola, CDC Confirms

WFAA is reporting that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)?has confirmed that a patient in Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas has tested positive for the deadly Ebola virus.

This is the first case of Ebola confirmed in the U.S.

The CDC will hold a news conference at 4:30 EST in Atlanta. They will make the decision as to whether or not it is necessary to move the patient to another facility. There are only five facilities in the U.S. that have the high-level isolation facilities to handle an Ebola-infected patient. The CDC will be working to determine how many people the patient has had contact with.

The patient, whose age and gender has not been released, is being kept in isolation and has traveled to African countries recently.

Zachary Thompson, the director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services, said that Dallas is ready to care for the patient.

“This is not Africa,” Thompson said. “We have a great infrastructure to deal with an outbreak.”
