Time for another ignorant bigot to open his mouth about LGBT rights. This time, it is GOP House Candidate Jody Hice. Hice is set to replace Rep. Paul Broun in the U.S. House. Today, Hice, who also happens to be a pastor, took to his radio program to berate LGBT people for asking for rights, and to make incredibly insulting comparisons between marriage equality and things like incest and bigamy. I would dismantle his arguments, but why bother? I’ll let his words speak for themselves. When discussing the crusade for rights, Hice said:

?Let’s just suppose a gay person comes up to you and says something like, ?Why shouldn’t I have the same rights as everybody else? Why can I not marry the person I love???

Seems like a reasonable question to anyone who isn’t an insanely ignorant bigot, but, not to Hice. He went on to say:

?Well what rights are we talking about??Gay people have the same rights as everybody else. There are no rights that are missing. They have the same rights as anyone. We are Americans and we all have the same rights.??

Hice went on to imply that gay people are perfectly free to just marry someone of the opposite sex. Hice went on to say:

?People have been loving one another as companions and so forth for a long, long time and they have been giving care to one another for a long, long time without calling every instance of love and mutual care, without calling that marriage. But now all of a sudden we have the demand to fundamentally redefine the world marriage.”

Ah, the old redefining marriage argument. Anyone with a knowledge of the history of the concept of marriage realizes that it is a pile of horse manure, what this guy is saying. Further, the people who think this way are also the same people who say that same sex marriage destroys the sanctity of marriage. Well, straight people did that all on their own, with the 70% divorce rate, showy celebrity weddings, and people like Larry King getting married 9 or 10 times. That sanctity was gone a long time ago, and it isn’t gay who destroyed it. But, hey, just since the people getting married are of the opposite sex, it’s all good, right?

As a gay person myself, the very idea that someone should choose who I am supposed to love and marry is insulting and infuriating, so I shall say no more on this man’s outrageously ignorant narrative. Here is the audio of Hice’s narrative during this part of his radio show:

Of course, Hice’s offensive remarks didn’t stop there. Later on in the show, he went on to liken marriage equality to incest, and to again insist that everyone has the same rights. Again, I’ll let him speak for himself. The level of ignorance and offense is astounding to anyone who is not a raving fundamentalist bigot.
