Will Clinton Run?

While still not declaring, Hillary Clinton at least narrowed down the possibility of her potential candidacy for president in 2016. She’ll make her decision early next year, she said on Sept. 5.

Speaking at an event in Mexico City, Clinton offered:

“I do have a unique vantage point and set of experiences about what makes the United States operate well and what doesn’t and what a president can do and should be doing. So I am going to be making a decision around, probably after the first of the year, about whether I’m going to run again or not.”

The former Sec. of State still needs prodding, she said, about making the choice.

?I will have to be convinced that I have a very clear vision with an agenda of what I think needs to be done, and that I have the experience and know-how to lead — not just those who agree with me, but those who disagree with me, to try to achieve those goals. It’s a very serious undertaking, so obviously I’m thinking about it, but I have not made a decision yet.”

Her recent comment could indicate a slight delay from previous statements about candidacy determination, however. In a Dec. 2013 interview with Barbara Walters, Clinton said she’d decide this year about whether or not to run for president.

Even without formal declaration, Clinton has ample support. In June 2013 Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) publicly called for her to start campaigning, and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) endorsed Clinton in May 2014. A ?Ready for Hillary? Super PAC has conducted grassroots campaigning since Jan. 2013.

She also has a solid foundation on which to start her bid for the White House. A recent McClatchy-Marist Poll found Clinton to lead all potential Republican candidates for president in 2016. ?A Gallup Poll from July found her to lead other Democratic candidates in both familiarity and favorability.
