Right-wing kook publication?The Word Nut Net Daily is at it again! Their drivel has become so predictable that it’s barely newsworthy anymore, but occasionally they toss us a gem. This week? They’re saying that Pres. Obama has turned into a Doomsday prepper.
In observance of the upcoming National Preparedness Month (September 2014), Pres. Obama issued a “Presidential Proclamation,” which can be found on the White House website. Some of the juicy bits:
Before emergencies occur, we must make sure we are ready to respond, and it is every American’s responsibility to be prepared. There are simple but important steps we can all take to ensure we know what to do and have what we need in the event of a crisis. National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to talk with our families, friends, and colleagues about the risks in our communities and to practice our responses in all the places we regularly visit.
Scandalous! He’s a regular doomsdayer, eh? He suggested visiting sites like www.ready.gov, and perhaps assembling a disaster supplies kit. You know….stuff that the Red Cross and others have always advised us to do. Most of us already have them in our homes, whether homemade ones like mine is, or these inexpensive pre-made ones that you can buy anywhere.
Naturally, this has fueled the fires of paranoia among certain groups of people. World Net Daily particularly is using this to line their pockets by linking out to their preparedness store. It really saddens me to see how people like Joseph Farah and his ilk prey on the fears of uninformed people. Honestly, it’s tragic.
Here’s a news flash: the U.S. government has been a “doomsday prepper” since before it was cool in nutjob circles. It’s called being responsible and being prepared. Any family should be prepared. Any organization should have a disaster preparedness plan. It’s common sense. But some people will take everything to a level that borders on insanity.
