The Map Of White People

Do you have friends and family who are always threatening to move to another country because the U.S. is currently led by an African-American president? We’ve got something for you to pass on to them!

Julian Abagond — a writer who writes about racial issues — couldn’t find a “map of white people” on the internet, so she made one. Here is the guide to understanding the map above:

Abagond

“White” by this definition includes white Hispanic people and Lebanese Christians. She notes that people who are considered white in one country aren’t necessarily considered to be white in other countries.

Abagond notes differences in each region. For example, the GOP will likely shudder in their shoes looking at this map as we can see the South turning lighter and lighter blue. White people aren’t always going to be the majority in southern states.

Another noted trend is that more white people live in the temperate zone that is 23.5 to 66.5 degrees from the equator, and New Zealand is more diverse than Australia. Who knew?

I’ll leave you with this: white people make up only a sixth of the world’s population.
