Showing their true intelligence on the subject, hoodlums?spray painted ?No Illeagles Here No Undocumented Democrats? on the wall of a building that was being considered for use as a shelter for undocumented immigrant children.
However hilarious the misspelling may be, Maryland State Police aren’t laughing. The Carroll County Times reported that it has been classified as a hate crime. The message was spray painted on the walls of an Army Reserve Center in Carroll County, which had been considered for use as a temporary shelter to harbor undocumented immigrant children.
Lt. Patrick McCory:
?This is definitely a racial, religious, ethnic incident.
?It’s going to be difficult if there’s no witnesses unless somebody speaks up or starts talking about it on Facebook or tells a friend. Usually, that’s how these people get caught ? I wouldn’t be surprised if someone starts bragging about it.?
The location has since been deemed unsuitable for use as a shelter. Local officials had objected to its use. The Carroll County Times also reported that the Carroll County Board of Commissioners had ?pledged not to provide any assistance to federal agencies if or when they moved the children to the facility.?
Commissioner Haven Shoemaker, a Republican, commented:
?Given the unknown at play here ? in terms of illness and connection to gang activity and all the sort of things that could have been involved ? it’s certainly for the better that this not be located in Westminster.?
The Baltimore Sun also reported that Rep. Andy Harris, a Republican, lent a hand in helping oppose the shelter.
As deplorable as their stance may have been, it’s probably better the location was ruled out considering the attitude of the local officials and residents. I don’t want to imagine what the children would be met with had it been used.
On another entirely different note, if you can’t spell very well that’s fine. No judgment here. I’m not perfect. There could be errors in this article right now. However, when spray painting messages of hate, please at least have a dictionary with you.
