In a sick and disturbing chain of events that occurred in a small North Carolina town, a now 16-year-old girl is finally free from a decade of alleged sexual assaults.

While the sexual assaults are bad enough, these assaults reportedly came from her six brothers. To make things even more disturbing, the parents involved in this case, reportedly knew of the sick assaults. It begs the question: ?How do you let six brothers sexually assault their own little sister??

According to the Huffington Post, authorities identified the six brothers as Aaron Jackson, 19, Benjamin Jackson, 19, Nathaniel Jackson, 21, Mathew Jackson, 23, Jon Jackson, 25, and Eric Jackson, 27.

The alleged assaults began in January 2003, when the girl was 4-years-old, through December 2012. It was in 2012 when Eric Jackson told an elder of a church in Wake Forest, N.C. about the assaults. According to Elder Dan Horn of Hope Baptist Church, the eldest Jackson expressed his need to ?walk in the light and confess his sin to the authorities.?

But before authorities could fully investigate the charges of sexual assault, the family refused to talk and fled to Colorado. Once authorities there were notified of the charges though, the victim was put into the custody of the Department of Human Services in Colorado Springs. The victim then confirmed the validity of the men’s confessions.

With this came the arrest of John Jackson, 65, and his wife Nita Jackson, 54. Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley indicated that the couple was arrested due to the fact that they knew of the abuse, and failed to stop it.

While the brothers are still being held on a $150,000 bond and charged with sexual assault, the parents were able to go free after posting a $15,000 bond on charges of felony child abuse. As for the Sheriff Tilley’s thoughts on the case, he had this to say:

?I blame the parents for this. It’s your responsibility as a parent to teach [your children] right and wrong.? Tilley also went on to describe the father as ?anti-government? and ?anti-schools.? ?The children were home schooled and with very limited education? he went on to say.

There are few things worse than the sexual assault of a child. So while the physical abuse is over, hopefully this young girl receives the best psychological care possible.

And for those that may read this and feel hopeless, there is help out there. Get away as safe as possible, tell someone, and know it’s not your fault.
