GOP 2016 Hopefuls: Ben Carson

GOP HOPEFULS HEADER

The Republican National Committee recently conducted an?online straw poll?identifying 32 candidates who could get its nomination in the 2016 presidential race. Each of the 32 has quite a questionable history, though, that contrasts with the GOP’s consistent claim of it being the ?moral? option for voters.

Philander, racism, thievery, bribery, and combinations of these and other?sins?are?found across the slate, in fact.?In this series on the 32 potential candidates (updated every other day), Liberal America will offer a quick rundown on the hypocrisy clouding each one’s ?holier than thou? claims.

An accomplished physician, Carson is now seeking a new profession, it seems: a neoconservative politician. Once a heroic icon to the black community, he’s since alienated his own race, discrediting the strife that African Americans still face in the U.S. Carson also attacks programs meant to help the poor and disadvantaged, even though he himself was raised on such programs, including Medicaid and welfare. Housing subsidies and food stamps (also once received by Carson) should end, and?because he claims they take away recipients’ incentive to improve.

Carson’s made national news for comments so bizarre that it seems the neurosurgeon?could use brain surgery himself; in a 2013 Fox News show, he said liberals are ?the most racist people there are,? and recently told CNN that the Affordable Care Act is the worst thing to happen since slavery ? even worse than 9/11.

In a June 2014 broadcast on NewsMax TV, Carson presented himself as open-minded and willing to compromise on issues. His own personal example of that ?compromise,? though? Carson says gays and lesbians can do what they want, even if he doesn’t personally approve, since it doesn’t affect his or anyone else’s rights ? but they still shouldn’t be allowed to marry, he said. Yeah, that’s open-minded ?compromise,? alright. See the video below:
