Hillary Clinton, Please Stop Talking.

Hillary Clinton

It’s no secret that many Democrats are hoping to put Hillary Clinton on the top of their 2016 presidential ticket. The former First Lady, US Senator, and Secretary of State seems to enjoy a wide popularity that has weathered every storm she’s faced. Despite vicious attacks from Republicans on everything from Benghazi to her age, she’s currently still winning in literally every single preliminary poll against every single possible?opponent in every single swing state polled.

However,?there may be one person who could damage Hillary Clinton’s chances: Hillary Clinton.

Recently, Clinton found herself in hot water over comments she made about her family’s finances. The controversy started earlier this month, when she tried to explain in an interview?with Diane Sawyer?how her and her family were “dead broke” after leaving the White House. When she tried to clarify her remark in an interview with the Guardian published this week, it seemed to only make things worse. In that interview, she?claimed that despite all their earnings over the years,?her family was not “truly well off.”

Of course, the big problem with statements like that is, while Hillary Clinton might be relatively “broke” compared to billionaire corporate families like the Walton family and the Koch brothers, the Clintons are still richer than more than 90 percent of American households. In a country where the median?wage has been historically stagnant for the past 15 years,?people don’t exactly have a lot of sympathy for the plight of millionaires.

The comments have even sparked concern from fellow Democrats. As former Democratic Party Chairman for South Carolina Dick Harpootlian put it, there’s growing concern that Hillary Clinton might be giving off an “imperial image” that could damage a possible 2016 campaign.

So far, the recent comments haven’t seemed to have had an effect on Clinton’s momentum. Despite that, 2016 is still two years off. Some of the best advice for Hillary Clinton right now might be the words of Politico’s Roger Simon: “Will the real Hillary Clinton please stop talking?”
